BeReader Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how BeReader (the “App”), developed and operated by Guanghui Liang (“we,” “us,” or “our”), handles information when you read books, follow feeds, use synchronization, purchase Pro, or contact us.
BeReader does not require a separate BeReader account. Much of your reading data is stored on your device. However, BeReader is not an entirely offline service: optional synchronization, feed requests, purchases, analytics, and diagnostics involve Apple and other service providers, as described below.
1. Information Stored and Processed by BeReader
Books and reading data
BeReader stores imported books, covers, book metadata, reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, reading activity, and preferences on your device to provide its reading features. Supported file conversions are performed on your device.
If you enable iCloud reading synchronization, book files and associated library and reading data may also be stored in your private iCloud database and synchronized between your devices. This can include covers, reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, reading sessions, and hidden-book status. Some settings, such as device-specific appearance preferences, remain local.
Your book files and highlighted passages are not submitted to RevenueCat or Firebase as analytics content by BeReader. Network diagnostics may nevertheless include technical details about requests made while you use the App.
Feeds and articles
BeReader stores subscriptions, folders, articles, read and starred states, reading positions, and cached or offline content on your device. It uses this information to organize feeds, resume reading, and provide offline access.
When you enable iCloud synchronization for local feeds, BeReader synchronizes subscription and folder information, read and starred states, and article reading positions through your private iCloud database. Article bodies, images, downloaded offline packages, third-party account credentials, and offline automation rules are not included in this feed synchronization.
Reading and feed synchronization have separate settings. Turning off synchronization stops future synchronization; it does not automatically erase copies already stored in iCloud or on another device.
Connected RSS services
If you connect a supported third-party RSS service, BeReader processes the service address, account information, and credentials necessary to authenticate and synchronize with that service. Passwords and similar credentials are stored using Apple's Keychain. Non-secret account metadata is stored locally.
Authentication information required by the service's protocol is sent to the service you choose. Depending on the service, synchronization exchanges subscriptions, folders, articles, and read or starred states. The provider processes this information under its own terms and privacy policy. Connected-service data is not included in BeReader's local-feed iCloud synchronization.
Purchases and subscriptions
Apple processes payments for BeReader Pro. We do not receive your payment card number or bank account details.
We use RevenueCat to validate purchases, restore purchases, determine Pro access, and understand subscription performance. RevenueCat processes purchase and transaction information, product identifiers, purchase and expiration dates, subscription status, an app user identifier, and technical information such as app and operating system versions. BeReader currently uses a RevenueCat-generated anonymous app user identifier rather than a separately registered BeReader account.
An anonymous identifier can still distinguish an installation or purchase history. It does not mean that no data is collected.
Analytics, diagnostics, and configuration
BeReader uses Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Performance Monitoring, and Firebase Remote Config to understand app usage, diagnose failures, measure performance, and retrieve configuration values. Firebase components and their dependencies may process:
- App-instance, installation, or device identifiers, such as the identifier for vendor where available.
- Device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone, and network information.
- App launches, sessions, screen views, purchase events, and other automatically recorded interactions.
- Crash reports, stack traces, application state, and diagnostic metadata.
- App startup time, screen-rendering and network performance, request URLs or URL patterns, response codes, and related technical measurements.
- IP addresses and approximate geographic information derived from network requests, such as country or region. This does not require access to your device's precise GPS location.
- Configuration-fetch information and information used to select applicable configuration values.
These services can collect information automatically when the App runs. Data collection can vary by SDK version, platform, and service configuration. BeReader does not currently provide a dedicated in-app switch for Firebase analytics and diagnostics.
Information you send to us
If you contact us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to provide, such as messages, screenshots, or attachments. The App's feedback email includes the BeReader and operating system versions in an editable draft. The message is sent only when you choose to send it.
Please avoid including passwords, payment details, or private book or article content unless it is necessary for your request.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Import, display, organize, and convert your books and restore reading positions.
- Retrieve and organize feeds and articles, and provide offline reading.
- Synchronize selected data when you enable iCloud or connect an RSS service.
- Verify purchases, restore Pro access, and prevent purchase-related abuse.
- Diagnose crashes, improve performance, understand feature usage, and maintain the App.
- Respond to support and privacy requests.
- Meet applicable legal obligations and protect the security of the service.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing depends on the purpose: providing a service you request, operating and securing the App where permitted by law, complying with legal obligations, or obtaining consent where required. This policy does not replace any consent that applicable law requires separately.
3. Third-Party Services and External Content
The following services handle information in connection with BeReader:
| Service | Purpose | Further information |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | App distribution, payments, iCloud synchronization, and operating system services | Apple Privacy Policy |
| RevenueCat | Purchase validation, Pro entitlements, purchase restoration, and subscription analytics | RevenueCat Privacy Policy |
| Google / Firebase | Usage analytics, crash reporting, performance monitoring, and remote configuration | Privacy and Security in Firebase and Google Privacy Policy |
| Your selected feed publishers and RSS providers | Delivery of feeds, articles, images, and connected-account synchronization | The relevant publisher's or provider's privacy policy |
Fetching a feed, loading article content or an image, refreshing subscriptions, or saving content offline sends requests to the relevant servers. Those servers and their content delivery providers can receive your IP address, request time, requested resource, and HTTP headers. Background refresh and automatic offline saving can also generate these requests when enabled.
Opening an original article or external link may load a website with its own cookies, analytics, advertising, or account features. BeReader does not control those websites. Publisher content may contain advertising even though BeReader does not itself operate an advertising network or display its own third-party ad placements.
We do not sell your personal information or provide your book library or highlights to advertisers. Service-provider processing for the purposes described in this policy is separate from selling your information. External publishers' practices are governed by their own policies.
4. When Information Is Shared
Information is shared with service providers as necessary for the functions described above, with services you choose to connect, and with recipients you select when exporting or sharing content.
We may also disclose information we hold when legally required, to respond to valid legal requests, or as reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, protect security, or defend legal rights. If operation of BeReader is transferred to another operator, relevant information may be transferred subject to applicable law and appropriate notice.
BeReader does not provide a public profile or community where your library is automatically published to other users.
5. Device Privacy and Security Features
Hidden books and device authentication
The book privacy feature hides selected books from the locked library view. Unlocking uses Apple's device authentication, such as Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode. BeReader receives the authentication result, not your biometric templates or device passcode.
Hiding a book does not separately encrypt its file, lock the entire App, or prevent access to copies you have exported. Hidden-book status may synchronize through iCloud when reading synchronization is enabled.
System search
If you enable system search integration, BeReader supplies selected book metadata, feed information, and article titles or summaries to Apple's on-device Spotlight index. Hidden books are excluded. BeReader does not index full book text through this feature. You can turn the feature off in the App's settings; removal from system search is managed asynchronously by the operating system.
Security measures
We use platform security features, including application storage protections and Keychain storage for connected-service credentials. Network protection also depends on the endpoint you use; an HTTP feed does not provide the transport protection of an HTTPS feed. No storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security.
6. Retention and Deletion
Local reading and feed data is retained to provide the App's functions until you remove it or it is cleared under an applicable cache or offline-storage rule. Local recovery snapshots, synchronization records, or backup copies may remain after an item disappears from the main interface.
iCloud data is managed through your iCloud account and Apple's services. Uninstalling BeReader, turning off synchronization, or allowing Pro access to expire does not necessarily delete previously synchronized data. Copies in device backups, iCloud, or connected RSS services may remain and need to be managed separately.
Purchase, analytics, diagnostic, and support records are retained according to their purpose, the applicable service configuration, provider retention practices, and legal requirements. For example, some purchase records may need to remain for restoration, fraud prevention, or compliance. Deleting local reading data does not automatically delete records held by service providers.
You can contact us to request deletion of personal information we control. We will assess the request, seek only information reasonably necessary to locate and verify the relevant records, and explain any applicable retention requirements or limitations. We cannot directly remove data held independently by a publisher or RSS provider you selected.
7. Your Choices and Rights
You can use the controls available in BeReader and your device settings to:
- Manage or delete books, subscriptions, and downloaded content.
- Export supported content and subscription lists.
- Enable or disable reading and feed iCloud synchronization.
- Disconnect supported third-party RSS accounts.
- Adjust background refresh and offline-saving rules.
- Enable or disable Spotlight integration.
- Manage subscriptions through your Apple Account.
Deleting the App or making a privacy request does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, or complain to a relevant data protection authority. Contact us using the details below to make a request. These rights are subject to applicable law and may have exceptions.
8. International Processing
We are based in China. Apple, Google, RevenueCat, and the publishers or RSS providers you access may process information in other countries, including the United States. The applicable locations and safeguards depend on the provider and service. Where required, international transfers must be supported by the safeguards or permissions required by applicable law. Please review the linked provider information for further details.
9. Children's Privacy
BeReader is not specifically directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under a higher age where applicable local law requires parental authorization, without that authorization. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us inappropriately, please contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as BeReader or its data practices change. We will publish the revised policy and update the date above. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before a material change takes effect.
